Zimbabwe Destinations

Sunset fishing lake Kariba

Lake Kariba serves many purposes: an hydro-electric scheme, a popular holiday destination, a wildlife sanctuary - but it is the fishing that draws anglers to this 300 km long expanse of water.

Here you will find the legendary Tigerfish, bream, tilapia, vundu, chessa and cornish jack.
You can fish all year round but best times are September and October when the annual International Tigerfishing tournament is held

First Street Shopping haven

The centre of the capital Harare finds you in the clean and modern shopping precinct. Great prices for a huge variety of goods you will stroll and browse here for hours, stopping for authentic local food or simply to watch the magnificent African sunset from the comfort of your hotel, restaurant or soon to be favourite shop.

Zimbabwe holidays

Zimbabwe offers so much - friendly people, spectacular scenery and excellent wildlife reserves. With a population of 11 million people in a massive 390,000 square km. Safaris and adventure sports are  extremely popular here and it is easy to see why. From the lowveld which is dry and hot, to the central zone, the birthplace of many of the rivers and a more temperate climate.

Zimbabwe: When is it the best time to visit?

Lake Kariba National Park also serves as a rhino orphanage, with 4 baby rhinos in the park. They're kept penned up at night until they get 3 years old, which is how long they'd stay under their parents' protection. The babies are pretty tame and used to people now however they get twitchy towards humans in short order after they're released.

Zimbabwe is an all year round destination. However there are certain seasons for special interest groups to take note of:

For high adventure enthusiasts, white water rafting is most exciting when the Zambezi waters are low, generally from August to December.

Best botanical months to visit the famous Vumba Botanical Gardens are December - May when the vegetation is lush and green, and also when most plants are in flower.

Zimbabwe's popularity as a destination is gaining in leaps and bounds to the extent that seasonal differences are not as marked as in previous years. Traditionally, however, peak season is from July - October and middle season is from May - June. Note that availability is at a premium during these seasons so you will need to book in advance. These are the most comfortable times for travelling, but it is during the wet summer, from November - April, when the landscapes are a striking, fresh green. However, the abundance of water means that it is less certain that wildlife can be seen at perennial water holes.
